Background
History
AIM
at Middle-Grades Results, a project of the Education
Development Center (EDC), was one of several initiatives
chosen by the US Department of Education to develop,
test, and disseminate a comprehensive school reform
model for the middle grades. AIM draws heavily on
EDC’s decade long experience with ATLAS Communities,
a research-based model that spans grades K-12, implemented
(with
positive results) in more than 100 schools
across the country.
AIM
is a comprehensive school reform program designed
to assist middle-grades schools to become high-performing
learning and caring organizations. Based on principles
identified by the National Forum to Accelerate
MiddleGrades Reform, AIM focuses on creating high
performing middle-grades schools that are academically
excellent, responsive to the unique developmental
needs of young adolescents, and socially equitable.
AIM is seeking new sites in schools and communities
across the country.
Schools
Served
The
AIM model has been implemented in schools in Massachusetts,
New York City (District 22), Mississippi, Arkansas,
and Louisiana. AIM is currently working with fifteen
sites around the country.
